What Will You Learn?
The basic science core for most medical schools include organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics. In addition, AGC recommends that Pre-Medicine students take anatomy and physiology, genetics, microbiology or virology, immunology and biochemistry.
Biology majors can take these courses as part of their curriculum or elective selections. Non-science majors, who must also meet the credit requirements of their major, generally restrict their choices to one or two of the recommended courses listed above.

As academic requirements for admission to medical schools vary, you do not need to study within a specific major in preparation for your next step. However, pursuing any of the degrees at AGC with a foundation of science will prepare you for the school of your choice.
Most students who plan to apply to medical school major in biology or chemistry, but MU students majoring in psychology, English, international studies, computer science, speech therapy, nursing and sociology have completed their core requirements at AGC before beginning their medical school education.
While planning your undergraduate course of study, check specific requirements for the schools to which you plan to apply upon graduation. For example, some veterinary colleges may require courses in genetics and biochemistry as part of a student's pre-professional studies. Important considerations for medical school admission are a good academic grade point average (GPA) and a strong selection of science courses.
