Mathematics

Degrees: B.S., B.A., B.S.E.

Grasp the nuances of mathematics or learn how to share that passion with the next generation by studying Mathematics at AGC.

What Will You Learn?

Students pursuing a B.A. in Mathematics take a liberal arts approach to college education including a wide range of courses preparing them for a plethora of career options. The B.S. degree program is more specifically application-oriented and requires a greater concentration in mathematical analysis and science. The B.S.E. combines mathematics and teaching in a 4-year program. Pennsylvania’s extremely high standards for teacher preparation equip graduates to be highly successful teachers both regionally and nationally.

All mathematics courses are taught by full-time, dedicated mathematics professors, all of whom hold a doctoral degree and have diverse interests in pure and applied mathematics, statistics and mathematics education. Faculty members are highly engaged in scholarly activities in their field.

Many mathematics majors complete independent research projects, working one-on-one with professors. These are often completed as part of a student’s senior honors thesis for either departmental honors or as part of the University’s Honors College requirements.

The student-staffed Mathematics Assistance Center (MAC) is a tutoring center that provides free drop-in tutoring for mathematics courses, from introductory mathematics and statistics courses through the calculus sequence. The MAC operates during both daytime and evening hours.
